Because social media is one of my biggest passions in life, it's been the source of comfort in my life. When my family lost my father, I didn't know what to do. While I felt helpless, I did the only thing I knew I could do; I rocked it at social media.
I created a GoFundMe campaign for my mother and helped get the word out about the situation. So I created a tweet and reached out to actress Mara Wilson, who played Matilda in the Matilda movie and one of the young daughters in the movie, Mrs. Doubtfire. I had heard she retweets people in situations similar to mine so I took a risk. Granted my social copy wasn't anything special (probably wasn't in the right frame of mind), it turns out she did retweet me.

My impressions skyrocketed, engagements flew through the roof, and people were visiting the GoFundMe campaign and donating.
In the end, I ended up raising over $15,000 for my mom and helped her move across the country to join me in San Francisco. Mara Wilson has since removed her retweet, but I'm glad I could use my social media skills to do something to help my family through a difficult time.
